Day One
Approx. 52 km |
Meet at 9 am in the Sandman Hotel Parking
lot in Castlegar BC. From there we load up the van and head up to Paulson Station on the
Columbia Western Railway. We do this as the section from Castlegar
up to the Paulson will be done on day four. Castlegar to Paulson is a 7
to 8 hour up hill grind, I find most people prefer the 5 hour down hill
ride a little more enjoyable. After a half an hour van ride up to
Paulson we unload the bikes and head for Grand Forks. Lunch is at the
Christina Lake Golf Club approx. 30 km from Paulson. Dinner and
Accommodation are in Grand Forks
|
Day Two
Approx. 51 km |
After a leisurely breakfast we start for
Midway by 9 am. Lunch is in the town of Greenwood 36 km into our day's
ride. Before leaving Grand Forks you will need a snack along as lunch
will be mid afternoon. From Green wood we head for our evening resting
spot in Midway.
|
Day Three
Approx. 50 km |
Today we head along the Kettle Valley
Railway portion of our tour toward Taurus Station. Lunch will be in Rock
Creek a little town along the Kettle River. Approx. 18 km into the day.
We end this section of the trip at Taurus Station so we can head back to
catch the start of the Columbia Western line (Paulson back to Castlegar). After finishing this
portion of the trip we climb in the van and head back to Grand Forks for
the evening and our nights accommodation.
|
Day Four
Approx 60 km |
Last day of the tour and the longest, but
not to worry 50 km of the ride is down hill. On this ride we will need
to pack a lunch as there are no places along the way to eat. This
section has some great trestles to cross. Another attraction along the
way is the Bull Dog Tunnel. To navigate the tunnel which is 900 meters
long requires flash lights. I personally like this section of the KVR
(Kettle Valley Railway) the most. (only out done by the famous Myra
Canyon which burnt in the wildfires of 2003). The rebuilding of the
trestles' in Myra Canyon are nearing completion and will once again be a
great ride. We finish day four at back in Castlegar at approx 4 pm. |
